8.8.10 in the diary

Last year I went along to the first wooden surfboard day at Currumbin Alley organised by Grant Newby (same guy that does the fish fry). It was awesome. Inspired me to get my act together and make my alaia as well as a couple of handplanes which Ive been having a heap of fun with recently. Look forward to going again this year. If you're in the area go check it out!

Nearly every plastic bottle ever made still exists today!

Plastiki is a portmanteau of the words plastic and Kon-Tiki.
Kon-Tiki is the raft used by the Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyedahl in his 1947 expedition across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands.
Plastiki is the raft currently crossing the Pacific, only this raft has been built from 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles, is 60ft long and features many renewably energy systems.
It has currently travelled 3/4 of its journey from San Fransisco to Sydney after spending 91 days at sea at an average speed of 4 knots.
Their mission is to bring peoples attention to the sad reality of the pacific gyre where a floating island of plastic about twice the size of Texas continues to grow!

Pure inspiration..

Please say NO to plastic bags and bottles!
